I’m not quite sure why the Air Force even wanted their commercial taken down, wouldn’t that mean more publicity? Who knows what goes on inside the minds of th military…

Looks like Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales is in a little bit of trouble. according to an article on MSNBC, his fromer lover Rachel Marsden published some dirty online chats on the Web, as well as selling his clothes on E bay. He is also in a bit of trouble for asking for lavish reimbursements from the Wikimedia Foundation, the foundation that runs the site. This came out in a blog entry by former Wikimedia employee Danny Wool. Currently the rest of Wikimedia is standing behind Wales. Wales has also been caught tampering his own Wikipedia entry from time to time…but who wouldn’t do that.

You would think Wales of all people would know how public the internet really is, but I guess he just hasn’t learned from his own work.

Soon, not only will you be able to see results from Google, but you will also be able to search inside those results with a new search bar. I was reading this article from tech crunch, and Google has added a new search option in its results that lets you search within the site. For example if Amazon comes up in your search results then you could have the option of searching within Amazon from your results list.

According to the article it is currently limited to larger retail sites, and it seems to me like its more of an advertising gimmick than anything else, maybe if this new search bar were used in more than just the sites with the most money it could really come in handy. For example I could search a research site for the specific words that I was looking for.

Since I’m blogging on word press, it seems only appropriate to talk about this article I discovered on tech crunch. Apparently word press is looking into jumping on the band wagon and becoming a social networking site.

I’m not sure how they plan on doing this, but I can imagine it being something like myspace with more focus on blogs. I could see users having fellow bloggers as friends, and being able to connect and easily access their friends’ blogs.

overall all I’m sure word press users would enjoy a new social aspect to the site, and I’m pretty sure every site will be social soon, its just a matter of time.

facebook applications can be really annoying, right? Especially the ones you get invited to like “take this quiz and see what kind of drunk you are.” But amongst the hundreds of meaningless applications people have come up with, some might actually come in handy; you just have to find them.

this article from Tech Crunch talks about a facebook application that lets you look at how well other people are doing in the stock market. Cake Financial, a social finance site that lets you track and share the performance of your actual brokerage accounts, just launched a Facebook app. In the application you will be able to see just how much money your friends are making in the stock market, and you could actually mimmick the most successful portfolios. People could actually make a lot of money if they have friends that are doing well.

This sounds like a cool application, and if enough people used it it has the potential to be very beneficial. Unfortunately Cake Financial has less than 10,000 users right now, and I’m sure that most of them do not have facebook. This new app. could be off to a slow start, considering that there are tons of applications on facebook and most users haven’t even heard of most of them. I for one, hope it takes off because Facebook need more good quality applications.

Ok so I know I’ve fallin a little behind on blog posts, but don’t worry I’ll catch up. aparently they don;t just have online matchmaking anymore, you can now go on online dates. According to this article from Wired there are sites where you can not only meet people online, but actually go on a video date with them.

Its a little sad that not only are people filling out exhaustive personality surveys on sites like match.com and eharmony to find their “soulmate” but now they are actually dating online. I’m sorry, but online dating will never replace personal contact. I think that the speed and ease of the internet has replaced person to person contact, both in the business and personal worlds. a video chat could never replace an actual conversation with someone no matter how hard we try.

back in August 2006 the federal government took off a tax on dsl internet providers in order to put them on even footing with cable modem providers that didn’t have to pay the tax. Lucky costumers right? WRONG! I was reading this article on MSNBC and apparently most of the DSL providers starting with Verizon simply changed the name from the “Federal Universal Service Fund Fee” to “Supplier Surcharge” and instead of passing it on to the government like the tax, they are just pocketing he money.

Luckily, in this case they didn’t get away with it. Consumers, and journalists noticed and jumped all over the companies. It really makes me wonder though, how many companies are getting away with tricking the consumers? I’m sure that there are quite a few. When I read my cell phone bill, I don’t know where half of the charges come from, but I still pay it. The article said that companies are kept honest by competition, and I agree for the most part. But what if all the companies are doing the same dishonest thing? Is competition really enough?

What would the world look like with a combined Microsoft and Google? That is exactly what this article looks at. According to the article a combine Microsoft and Yahoo would challenge Google with a combined search market share of 38%, its still small compared to Google’s 58% of the market share, but at least it’s something. The article says that he biggest gain for Microsoft is the advertising revenue that Yahoo would create. Microsoft wants to make Windows more Web based, I’m not sure what a Windows Live would look like , but I’m willing to give it a try!

Overall I do not think this merger would affect our everyday lives, but it would certainly help Microsoft out a lot, and I wish them luck!

Our generation seems to be so sure that computers are our domain. We download music, send IMs, and pretty much live on Facebook, but we don’t realize how fast our parents are catching up. Sure they all use e-mail, and Ebay, but according to a recent cnn.com article some parents are going a lot farther than that. College are now talking to their parents and grandparents via IMs, older generations are on Myspace and Facebook.

I personally do not want my parents or their friends looking at my Facebook, and a lot of people my age feel the same way, one student was quoting saying that it was like a 40 year-old attendin a frat party. I completely agree, but I also think that it is important for parents to keep up with technology, because their 11 year-old kids are. Kids are learning technology at a younger and younger age, and parents need to know about these sites to better protect their children.
